How do we re-moralise our society?

A pressing question, in these days of thieving politicians, bankers and CEOs, and re-energised by new surveys which show that as a society, we're all less honest than were were. A thoughtful Grauniad article puts this in the context of half a century of dissolution of old ties, off family bonds, neighbourhood, etc., set against globalisation, hypermobility, the internet (oh the irony of writing this) and turboconsumerism.

As ever with The Graun, among the sensible, thoughtful comments following, there's the odd rotten apple, but even I'm surprised and impressed at how the first comment completely misses the point:

...It's the public sector, which consumes more than half of all resources in the country, and means that we have to work half our lives purely to keep our feudal master - the state - in the style and comfort to which it has become accustomed. Reforming the parasite state is Cameron's challenge - one he's not even come close to rising to so far.

Burnt Boats

I finally burnt my boats at CiF... After being subjected to pre-moderation by the humourless pricks who work at The Grauniad, I sent the following email after returning home pissed from seeing in the New Year:

Dear Grauniad

You are such fucking pussies. I make one crack about hanging someone and you impose pre-moderation - meanwhile, your own fucking columnists happily toss off comments about killing Tories, or at least revelling in their deaths, and not only do you not pre-moderate them, you pay the cunts!

You fucking disgust me, you pusillanimous, gutless wankers, god rot your crippled PC weakling hearts, you bland fucktards! This country is doomed with such boneless twats as you.

Consequently, my account was suspended, and after resorting to the usual gambit of signing up again with a new identity from a different email address, they rumbled me again (presumably they keep a closer eye on IP addresses these days) and that account was suspended too. Cunts.
